Landslip threatens six mobile homes

A group of residents have been advised not to use their mobile homes until they have been inspected or moved after a landslip caused by flooding in July left them potentially unsafe.

Rushcliffe Borough Council told four householders to leave Bridgford Court, Trent Lane, East Bridgford, after the heavy rain two weeks ago caused part of a clay bank to slip away.

The bank supports several balconies at the back of the homes, which overlook the River Trent.

The council has offered the residents accommodation and said two more empty homes could be at risk.

Some of the properties were inspected by engineers from the council and the homes’ insurers this week.

Mr Dan Hyndman, manager of the site where there are 15 homes, said there was no structural damage to the homes themselves, but the bank had been significantly damaged by the flooding and landslip.

He had been working with residents to find out who was responsible for the bank. The Land Registry had no records, but the parish council believed the freeholder of Bridgford Court owned the land and was trying to contact the owner.

Mr David Banks, executive manager of neighbourhoods at the borough, said: “Discussions are continuing to see what can be done to protect the site from further slippage.”

Parish council chairman Mr John Turner and borough councillor Mr Nigel Lawrence inspected the site on Monday evening and spoke to residents.
