Latest in series of environment-focused lectures to take place at Newark Town Hall

A Newark environmental group has announced the latest event in an ongoing series of public lectures.

Protect Newark’s Green Spaces Stop The Chop campaign will be discussed by environmentalist and barrister Adrian Amer and Adam Cormack, head of campaigning at the Woodland Trust, at Newark Town Hall on Saturday.

The event starts at 10am with Adam Cormack’s talk on tree and woodland protection in the UK, followed at 10.45am by Adrian Amer’s discussion about the advantages and pitfalls of environmental law, particularly in reference to the group’s campaign to save the trees behind London Road carpark.

A barrister since 1984, Adrian ran as an independent candidate in the county council elections last year. He has a particular interest in wasteland in Newark being reclaimed for public use, as well as preserving the town’s green spaces and trees.

He said: “Environmental law has the potential to save our community, save our country and save our planet from environmental destruction. Gradual and incremental and wanton destruction of natural environmental resources can no longer be physically sustained and tolerated. If you want a better environmental world for yourself, your children, your community, your country, your planet, you cannot afford to ignore the theory and the practice of environmental law.”
