George’s family are inviting people to come to Sconce Park with a picnic to remember George on that day and want everyone to gather together to remember George.

They say they would love to hear any stories people have of him.

George, 19, from Newark, died at the scene of the crash on Victoria Street on Thursday night of last week.

Firefighters from the Newark Fire Station attended, following a call at 10.33pm.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said when crews arrived one vehicle was on its side with two male casualties trapped inside.

Both were freed but George was pronounced dead at the scene.

George’s aunty, Becky Dobb, said anyone who knew George was welcome to attend on Monday, but the family wanted those attending to be respectful and not bring balloons or confetti cannons that will harm wildlife and to please also be mindful the park is a shared space and to be considerate of others.

Daniel Dow, George’s brother, said: “I just want to give him the best send off that he deserves. I want to show my step-mum and dad how many people loved George.

“George was a people’s person. He just loved helping others, he cared for everyone else and always put others before himself.”

Rafael Oliveira, one of George’s closest friends and a friend of the family said: “George was like a little brother to me, he meant everything to me and before the funeral I just want to give him the best send off.

“Hopefully whilst he’s up there he will be watching over.

“I booked in a tattoo to get his name and date of birth on me.”

Earlier this week George’s family paid tribute to a characterful and entertaining young man who loved to be the centre of attention.

They said they took heart from the outpouring of grief and love that the community has shown since George’s death.

Dozens of people have visited the scene of the devastating crash to pay their respects and lay flowers.

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 925 of May 18.

A JustGiving page has been set up to assist the family with the financial burdens associated with their loss, which has raised £3,000 in two days. You can donate at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/georgesims

Sumals Stores have also set up a collection pot in their store on Albert street for anyone wishing to make a donation to the family.
