Lifeguards honoured
A team of lifeguards that helped to save a man's life after he stopped breathing in a public swimming pool have received the Swimming Teachers' Association's highest honour.
Southwell Leisure Centre lifeguards Tom Burrows, 20, Mr Liam Shaw, 21, Mark Scutt, 20, and duty manager Mr Lewis Parkin, 23, helped swimmer Mr Paul Smith of Springfield Road, Southwell, when he had a heart attack in the pool in September. They were nominated by the leisure centre's on-site Swimming Teachers' Association (STA) trainer, Mr Antony Porter.
Mr John Parlatt, of Crafts Way, Southwell, a Community First Responder who was swimming at the time, helped the team resuscitate the man.
The STA's Roll of Honour — the association's highest accolade, recognises outstanding commitment towards safety and lifesaving.
