Line reopens after man hit by train
Train services have resumed through Newark Northgate after a man was hit by a train earlier today.
All lines through the station have reopened, with the exception of the line via platform 3, as emergency services require access to this area.
Journeys through the station may still be delayed for up to two hours.
East Midlands Trains services that start or end at Newark Northgate are doing so at Newark Castle.
A bus shuttle service is operating between the two.
Police officers and paramedics attended the scene.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said they attended after reports of a man being struck by a train at 11.39am.
The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance was tasked to the incident by East Midlands Ambulance Service to provide advanced critical care and a rapid means of transport to the nearest trauma centre.
The crew took off from their base at East Midlands Airport at 11:55am and landed in the yard next to the train line 14 minutes later.
The patient was assessed for his injuries by the crew - found to be facial, chest and pelvic - before being anaesthetised by the air ambulance doctor.
He was then immobilised before being flown to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for further treatment.
The patient’s current condition is unknown.
The man, 49, is a railway worker and part of Network Rail's track team.
The spokesman for BTP said: "Officers are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident, which is being treated as non suspicious."
