Newark Book Festival success with events at venues including Newark Town Hall, Newark Castle and Tudor Hall
Literature lovers were treated to four days of events as Newark Book Festival returned to its full volume.
The annual festival had been limited for the past two years because of the coronavirus pandemic.
But, this year, there was a return to a full programme of book-related talks and activities at venues across the town.
“The atmosphere was lovely this year,” said festival artistic director Sara Bullimore.
“Everyone seemed so happy and excited to be out. It was amazing and quite emotional almost.
“People were able to go to different events and use venues that we have not been able to use the past two years, like the library, the story boat which always used to sell out and it did again this year. It’s been fantastic, just four days of joy.”
More than 1,500 people bought tickets to festival events, on top of the free activities and school events on offer.
Newark Town Hall, the Tudor Hall, the library and cafés hosted talks, while there were free activities in the castle grounds and church gardens, as well as the literature village in the Market Place.
“I’m still trying to catch up on social media notifications at the moment. It’s just going a bit bonkers with everyone tagging us on everything, it seems that everyone is reporting that it’s been the best one so far of all editions,” Sara added.
With the standards set for this year’s edition, the expectations for next year’s are to not let the fans down and go even bigger, better and louder.
The organisers and the volunteers are already brainstorming on the theme and potential ideas.
