Live updates as flood warnings in places across the Advertiser area, including Newark, Lowdham, Southwell and villages on the River Trent




Live updates of flooding and road closures as heavy rain descends on the Advertiser area.

A number of flood warnings and alerts are in place across the area, including around the River Trent and its tributaries, and we are providing live updates below:

10pm Friday, January 5

Nottinghamshire County Council have released lists of areas that potentially may need to evacuate.

10.40am Friday, January 5

More roads have closed due to flooding, including the A1133 near Collingham.

10.20am Friday, January 5

The Trent has reached 2.66m at Farndon.

6pm Thursday, January 4

Newark and Blidworth leisure centres have been identified as rest centres for people affected by flooding.

Leisure operator Active4Today said on Facebook: “This is may result in a reduction in specific activities and classes.

“We are reviewing the situation regularly, so please check our website or social media before travelling.”

5.15pm Thursday, January 4

Marsh Lane, Farndon, has flooded.

The River Trent at Farndon is currently recorded at 2.59m, just under the 2000 record of 2.76m and well above the top of its normal range at 1.70m.

3pm Thursday, January 4

Newark and Sherwood District Council has closed Riverside Car Park due to flooding.

Anyone parked in the carpark is asked to return to their vehicles and move them.

The council has also asked residents to stay alert over the next 24 to 48 hours as the Trent is still yet to peak.

Council staff and the emergency services are out and about in the district helping affected residents.

All information and key contact details for organisations able to help or to report flooding to is available on the council’s website at www.newark-sherwooddc.gov.uk/breakingnews and residents can call the council on 01636 650000 for advice.

Motorists are asked to only travel if they really need to.

2.15pm Thursday, January 4

A major incident has been declared by the Nottinghamshire and Nottingham Local Resilience Forum, along the River Trent in Nottinghamshire due to flooding and the risk of further flooding caused by Storm Henk.

Farndon Road is submerged in floodwater, affecting nearby businesses, properties and Sconce and Devon Park. Read more here.

12.25pm Thursday, January 4

Newark MP Robert Jenrick, in a post on Facebook, said: “With waters continuing to rise, it seems likely that flooding around Newark and the Trent villages will be the worst experienced since 2000. Please stay safe.

“My office and I remain here to help at this challenging time. Please contact my office… if you need assistance.”

Due to the need to reallocate staff to assist residents affected by flooding, Newark and Sherwood District Council’s Ollerton Office will be closed tomorrow (Friday, January 5) and Monday, January 8.

Farndon Road, Newark, has been closed due to flooding, Nottinghamshire County Council announced.

10.30am Thursday, January 4

Water levels at the River Trent at Farndon are at 2.53m, just 23cm from the highest level ever recorded at the measuring station which was 2.76m in 2000.

Nottinghamshire County Councils full list of road closures currently includes:

  • A617 at Kelham
  • Main Street, Lowdham
  • Hoveringham Road, Caythorpe / Hoveringham
  • Beck Street / Station Road, Thurgaton
  • Station Road, Rolleston
  • Trent Side, Gunthorpe
  • A6097 Gunthorpe (near Lowdham Caravans)
  • Main Street, Bleasby (Gypsy Lane to Gibsmere)
  • High Street/Proctors Drive, Girton

10am Thursday, January 4

Farndon Road, Newark, is flooded near Newark Marina.

Motorists are reminded to observe road closure signs.

The A6097 Gunthorpe Bridge, between A46 and A612 is closed due to flooding.

9am Wednesday, January 3

The A1 has closed Northbound near Long Bennington and other roads have been affected. Read about it here.

10pm Tuesday, January 2

The A1 has been closed southbound between Fernwood and the A52 due to flooding.

One lane of the A46 northbound near Bingham is closed due to flooding, from A606 Melton Road to A52 Bingham bypass.

A section of the A52 near Radcliffe on Trent has also been closed.

There is major railway disruption. East Midlands Railway is “strongly advising customers to not attempt to travel” due to flooding on the railway.

Due to trains and crew being out of place and the rails needed inspection after floodwater recedes it is likely to continue affecting travel tomorrow.

Passengers on social media reported a landslide earlier in the evening near the tracks at Colwick causing disruption to services to Newark.

5.27 Tuesday, January 2

Trent Lane, between Kelham and South Muskham has been closed.

5.16pm Tuesday, January 2

Motorists have reported standing water on Main Road, Upton.

Newark and Sherwood District Council has updated residents that Kirton Road, Egmanton, has fast-flowing water due to dyke which has burst its banks.

Kirklington is heavily congested, with traffic down to single file near the church.

4.40pm Tuesday, January 2

Due to flooding Nottingham City Transport 26 buses will not be serving Southwell and will terminate at Lowdham War Memorial.

It is due to flooding on the A612 and through the usual diversion route through Oxton.

Due to the closure of Main Street, Burton Joyce, buses will remain on the A612 in both directions through the village.

4.30pm Tuesday, January 2

Active4Today has closed Southwell Leisure Centre due to flooding on Nottingham Road.

On Facebook the leisure operator said: “Apologies to our customers but we have been forced to close due to the inclement weather and flooding.

“This is for the safety of all customers concerned. We hope to open as normal tomorrow but further updates will follow in due course.”

  • Beck Street and Station Road, Thurgaton
  • Station Road, Main Street, Ton Lane East and The Priors, Lowdham
  • Nottingham Road, Southwell
  • Main Street and Lingwood Lane, Woodborough
  • Main Street, Lambley
  • Hoveringham Road, from Caythorpe to Hoveringham

4.10pm Tuesday, January 2

Kelham Road between the Fox Inn at Kelham and Cattle Market roundabout, Newark, has been closed for much of the day and remains closed.

Newark Road, Hawton, has been closed due to flooding. There is also water across the road on Hawton Lane.

There are reports of standing water on the A612 at Gonalston and Burton Joyce.

Roads in Lambley and Woodborough villages are closed due to flooding and The Priories and Ton Lane East in Lowdham are closed.

There is water on the road between Caythorpe and Hoveringham.

Beck Street in Thurgarton has been closed.

Hopkiln Lane, Southwell is closed.
