Local coach service shortlisted for national award

Bus and coach company Marshalls of Sutton-on-Trent has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award for the second year running.

Last year Marshalls came away from the UK Bus Awards ceremony as highly commended and is hoping to achieve more at the finals in London this year.

The announcement was made via social media with regular updates of finalists for each category of the awards.

The top independent operator award recognises bus companies that provide an outstanding service and are committed to their customers and employees.

Mr Kenneth Tagg, operations manager at Marshalls, said: "To be in the finals for the second year running truly isas testament to the hard work of every employee, especially when you bear in mind the hardships we have had to face this year.

"On June 2, our service bus depot was flooded to a depth of 3ft in places, and yet with the hard work of drivers, engineers, directors, management and family and friends we managed to keep all services running in the days and weeks following the event.

"This proves the resilience and commitment of the company and its workforce to serve the community, many of whom were simply unaware of the issues we had faced that evening."

Mr Mark Yexley, chairman of the UK Bus Awards, said the awards are a symbol of excellence within the industry, and the quality of the 2018 entries reflect this.

"The judging process is very tough, and all our finalists should be proud of their achievements," he said.

“It’s a great honour to support, celebrate and reward all the remarkable work that’s undertaken by transport teams up and down the country.

"It’s inspiring to see how much commitment there is from employees and organisations to enhance all areas of bus travel.”

The awards ceremony will take place at Troxy, in East London on Tuesday, November 20.
