Long-stay carpark plans in Bingham to be brought forward by council to improve facilities for community
A long-stay carpark for a commuter town is being driven by a council.
Bingham Town Council is seeking to bring forward plans to improve longer term facilities for motorists and the wider community.
It will be the accountable authority for a project exploring converting land near the potential new Bingham community, office and leisure hub into a long stay carpark with more than 200 spaces.
The potential facility would be accessed via Moorbridge Road and offer parking for those who work in the town centre or wish to commute using the nearby station.
The long-term strategy was identified in the Bingham Growth Board’s Masterplan and its aspirations for future growth and sustainability.
The board is a partnership between local councils, local business groups and other stakeholders who are working together to adapt the town’s development in line with its increasing population.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s deputy leader and chairman of the Bingham Growth Board, Debbie Mason said: “Providing more parking options is a key objective of the board and we are pleased the town council will now be looking how this site could be developed to benefit thousands of local people.
“We are supportive of their plans as we believe they will complement the projects currently being undertaken as part of the masterplan, including the hub.
“It could be a great opportunity to enlarge the local centre of Bingham using this land anchored around the Chapel Lane junction that could also ease traffic congestion in the town centre.”
