Long-term project set to begin as Newark Castle requires essential work

Newark Castle requires essential work, it has been revealed.

Following a recent condition survey of Newark Castle, it has been determined that essential works needs to be carried out to ensure that the monument can continue to be enjoyed for years to come.

Addressing the situation on its Facebook page, a spokesman for Newark Castle said: "Because of the unique repairs needed, this is expected to be a long-term project.

"Until its completion, Heras fencing has been installed along the inside curtain wall of the Castle and across the Gatehouse, both to protect this historic building from further damage and to protect visitors from danger.

"When visiting the site, it is important for your own safety that you do not attempt to pass the fencing.

"The barriers along the riverside path will also remain in place for the same reason.

"However the rest of the grounds will remain open to be enjoyed as normal.

"Thank you for your understanding and for helping us to preserve this important building."
