Looking to find town's strongest

The competition will take place on Saturday.
The competition will take place on Saturday.

Squats, bench-presses and deadlifts will feature in a contest designed to find Newark’s Strongest Man.

The Industrial Gym, on Brunel Drive, is inviting the area’s biggest and brawniest to take on a series of challenges on Saturday.

The event is open to male and female competitors. There will be lightweight and heavyweight classes.

There will be a farmers’ walk, and yoke walk, where competitors will be required to walk a certain distance with weights, as well as a tyre flip and car lift.

Gym owner Alvydas Rimkus said: “Some of the people are from the gym, but we will have people coming from all around to take part.

“It should be a great occasion. There are some big cash prizes and it’s not an event people are used to seeing in Newark.”

Money raised will go to a charity, which has yet to be decided.

Competitors will meet at the gym in the morning for a warm-up, ahead of the competition at noon.
