Lord Lieutenant Sir John Peace leads a minute's silence for the Queen at Castle House in Newark today




The Lord Lieutenant, Sir John Peace and other dignitaries were at Castle House today to lead a minute's silence in memory of the Queen.

Sir John was joined by High Sheriff Paul Southby, and the chairman of Newark and Sherwood District Council, Sue Saddington, leader David Lloyd and chief executive John Robinson so staff and guests could pay their respects.

Sir John and the High Sheriff both signed the Book of Condolence and Sir John then led a minute’s silence.

Sir John, from Caunton, was appointed by the Queen as her representative in Nottinghamshire and plays a key role in this period of National Mourning.

This minute’s silence was in advance of the national one minute’s silence at 8pm on Sunday evening.
