It marked Maggie’s kitchen table day, where people are encouraged to open up their homes for coffee mornings. However Jayne wanted to bring the event out into the community.

Maggie’s offers help and support for people who are diagnosed with cancer, whether that be a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand with financial advice.

Jayne, with help from Mac and Pat Mallard, Bob and Eileen Lambert and Anne Johnston, sold cakes, tea, coffee, hot chocolate and prosecco to raise money for the centre. Maggie’s Nottingham City Hospital Campus centre head Annie Walton was also on hand.

Jayne said: “It was absolutely fantastic. I was blown away by the generosity of people, and the companies that donated tombola prizes.

“We had a steady flow of people throughout the day.”

She said one man had even been waiting as they set up.

“He bought four cakes for five pounds, but he gave me a £20 note and old me to keep the change.” She added.

“I couldn’t have wished for it to have gone any better.”

Jayne and Nicola received positive news just days before the fundraiser, as they were told that Nicola’s cancer has shrunk.

The stall raised nearly £700, taking Jayne’s fundraising total to £1,495. To donate to Jayne’s fundraiser, visit here.

A cheque will be presented to Maggie’s on April 14 at The Harbour Master, Newark.
