GCSE results improved for a third successive year at the Magnus Church Of England Academy.

Students maintained last year’s pass increases in English and maths, and there was further progress in other subjects.

The school saw a 15% rise in science passes and a 22% increase in geography.

Principal Anna Martin said: "At Magnus we are passionate about ensuring all students have the knowledge, confidence, skills and qualifications they need to pursue their chosen career or academic pathway.

"This year’s results mark the third year in a row of rapidly improving results and I delighted at the sustained improvements.

"But the most encouraging aspect of that is seeing our young people take their planned next steps in further education or employment as a consequence."

The school said its sixth-form was thriving and, with increased capacity, was offering places to students looking for post-16 courses.

Anna said: "A large number of students have chosen to remain in our sixth-form and, given our outstanding A-level results, we look forward to seeing continued success for these young people."

Among the strong individual performances was Alvaro Escolano, who achieved grade eight or above in all his exams, including five top grade nines.

Other successful students included Poppy White, who had a seven or above in all of her exams, including three nines and three eights.

"I am very pleased and although I do not know what career path I want to take, I would like to do further maths, in particular, through A-level and then university," she said.

David Kalyo achieved two or three levels higher than targeted in all of his subjects.

Georgia Furmidge, who achieved a six, two sevens, an eight, three nines, and an A, said: "I was nervous about my results, but surprised in a good way when I opened my envelope.
