TSB bank to quit Newark, it tells customers in round robin email
TSB has announced to customers its intention to close its Newark branch.
TSB blamed the changing trends in the way that people bank for the decision.
An email to customers reads: "I’m writing to let you know that we’ll be closing our Newark branch, at 37 Castlegate, Newark, NG24 1BD on May 9, 2023.
"We thought this may be useful for you to know, as your account may be held at this branch, or you or someone on your behalf may have visited us here.
"The way customers bank with us is changing, with the majority of transactions now being made online.
"We need to make sure our branches meet the current and future needs of our customers, 70% have used our cash and self-serve machines and 28% have used the Post Office.
"Over two million customers have used our online chat service, and customers continue to use our video and telephone banking services.
"We also now have Mobile Money Confidence Experts in 45 communities across the country. So having looked carefully at our Newark branch and how it is used, we’ve taken the decision to close it.
"You don’t need to do anything, your products won’t change, and your sort code, account number, TSB cards and paying-in books will all stay the same.
The branch had already reduced its opening hours with counter staff only available 9.30am to 4pm Monday to Friday, with a 4.30pm closing time.
TSB had already closed branches at Southwell and Bingham, meaning the closest branched to visit in-person from the May date are on Lincoln, High Street, or 2 Davies Road, West Bridgford.
"If we cannot offer you an alternative way to bank with us that meets your needs, we will help you switch to an alternative provider," the TSB said in its email from Carol Anderson, director, branch banking.
"We’ll write to you again six weeks before the branch closes to remind you of what’s happening.
