The Newark D B Half-marathon has been called off due to the 2024 Newark Southern Link Road project

Organisers of one of the most popular sporting events in the area have declared that it will not be held next year.

A Newark D B half marathon committee meeting was held and soon after it was announced publically that the 2024 event will not be going ahead.

"We had already been informed that a new route would be required due to the extensive road works at Hawton," said a spokesman.

"Hawton forms an integral part of our approved and licensed route.

"We were therefore having to look at new routes, which are quite limited and we have to consider lots of options.

"Unfortunately we are unable to hold an event in 2024 as the approval of a new route can take months."

"We very much hope that we will be back up and running in 2025 and we are looking at a variety of possible routes.

"We hope this will not be too much of a disappointment and we will, of course, keep you informed of any developments."
