Man critical after assault
A man was airlifted to the Queen's Medical Centre after a serious assault on Lincoln Road in Newark today.
A police cordon is in place that includes part of Lincoln Road and the McDonald's carpark for forensic examinations to take place.
The incident happened at 10.55am today (Saturday).
A man was found by a police patrol with serious head injuries.
The man, who has not been identified, is in a critical condition with a suspected fractured skull.
Police are keen to trace a burgundy Mercedes 4x4-type vehicle, which was seen driving away from the scene towards the Brownhill's roundabout which links to the A46, A1 and A17.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if at all possible as there are lane closures approaching the Brownhill's roundabout.
