The death of Her Majesty The Queen on Thursday afternoon brought to an end a glorious reign of more than 70 years.
She came to the throne on February 6, 1952, following the death of her father, King George VI.
Her coronation took place more than a year later, at Westminter Abbey on June 2, 1953, to much celebration.

As with her platinum jubilee nearly 70 years later, the event was marked with a host of street parties and community events.
Following her death, the Advertiser has opened its archives to look back at how the district marked the momentous occasion in 1953.

As well as street parties, Newark hosted a regatta, while staff at Ransome and Marles enjoyed a party on the sports ground.
There was also a large civic gathering in Newark Town Hall to mark the occasion.
