Treasure at Lincoln & District Model Railway Club expects big crowd ahead of Newark Showground exhibition

Hundreds of people from across the country are expected to visit Newark Showground at the weekend for the first of two model railway club events in 2020.

Richard Joyce, treasure at Lincoln & District Model Railway Club, expects at least 1,000 people to walk through the doors over the two-day event, which will feature the best model railway sets from across all eras.

The theme for the upcoming meeting, at the Lady Eastwood Pavilion, is all gauges and all eras.

Richard said it would be the perfect chance for enthusiasts and those with limited knowledge to come together and learn.

“The people who produce the model railway sets have displays from old steam trains, to the nationalisation period through to the privatisation,” said Richard.

“We are trying to get a good mix over the two days so there is something for everybody — both families and enthusiasts.

“We get people from all around the country coming to visit and take part, but this is something we are inviting the people of Newark to too.”

The Lincoln-based club relocated their exhibitions to Newark Showground in 2018.

“We are based in Lincoln and we used to have it at the Lincoln Showground, but it didn’t have the space we wanted, whereas, in Newark, we have a spacious area for all the railways, traders and visitors on the day,” said Richard.
