Mother inspires marathon effort
A customer adviser is planning to complete a non-stop marathon-and-a-half on a treadmill on Monday in memory of her mother who died a year ago on that day.
Mrs Diane Blower, 46, of Milner Fields, Wellow, starting training at the end of September at Dukeries Leisure Centre, Ollerton, where she has a part-time job.
Mrs Blower is doing the 40-mile run for her mother, Mrs Florence Gearon, who died in Boughton Manor Nursing Home, aged 83, after suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.
Mrs Blower will raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society through sponsorship and a collecting bucket by her treadmill.
Friends have agreed to exercise alongside Mrs Blower for 20-minute stints to encourage her to keep going. She hopes to be joined for the final few yards by her granddaughter Molly, 1, who has just started to walk.
She said it would be a tough challenge but was determined to complete it. She will start at 8am and hopes to have finished in a time of just over eight hours.
