Police are appealing to a motorist who is believed to have left the scene of a crash in Newark to come forward.

A 25-year-old pedestrian sustained minor injuries to his leg following reports of a collision with a Volkswagen Golf near Highfields School in London Road between 12.30am and 1.30am on Friday December 23.

Pc Joanne Smith said: “The motorist failed to stop at the scene following the incident and soon after the vehicle is thought to have caused damage to a wall and garden near The Paddocks, off London Road.

“This would have made some noise in the early hours of the morning.

"If anyone saw anything suspicious in that area that night please get in touch with us.

“The car, which had sustained extensive damage, then continued to travel down London Road, onto Newton Street, before being left parked up after the level crossing on Barnby Road.”

The car is now being forensically examined by police.

Witnesses to the crash or events thereafter or anyone with any information about the motorist is asked to contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
