Newark MP Robert Jenrick completed the London Marathon , running for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen's Families Association) the Armed Forces charity
Newark’s MP has spoken of his pride at finishing the world-famous London Marathon on Sunday (April 27).
Robert Jenrick took part in the 26.2mile endurance race through the streets of London, running for SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen's Families Association) the Armed Forces charity.
He was cheered on by his family, and finished the marathon in 4:40:08, and has raised £8,791 for the charity to date.
In a statement posted to his social media page, Mr Jenrock said that he was “very proud” to have finished the marathon for SSAFA.
“Thank you to everyone who cheered, donated, or gave a wave along the way,” he said, “The crown was unbelievable!”
The men’s race was won by Sabastien Sawe, of Kenya, who crossed the finish line in 2:02:27, with Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo coming in second in 2:03:37, and Alexander Mutiso Munyao, also of Kenya, finished third in 2:04:20.
In the women’s race, Tigst Assefa, of Ethiopia,crossed the finish line first in a time of 2:15:50, while Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei finished second in a time of 2:18:44. In third was The Netherlands Sifan Hassan in 2:19:00.
