Mad Hatters reopens doors on Kirkgate, Newark after having to close doors on former premises on Appletongate
A much-loved quirky tearoom will be returning to the heart of Newark after being forced to close doors in September.
Mad Hatters, previously on Appletongate, Newark closed on September 28, however, it has been announced that it will be reopening at 39 Kirkgate, where the The Old Charles I coffee house was.
The teamroom is set to open on Friday (November 15) and the news comes alongside a new Mad Hatters tearoom which opened in Fulbeck at the Craft Centre on November 7.
The owner, Clare Fordham said: “I was offered premises from another business in the town and it was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse I felt very humbled that they wanted to help me.
“Personally I feel that the Mad Hatter is special because there is no other tearoom like it, we are unique, quirky and extremely vibrant.
“It brings a warm and friendly place for the community of Newark to come together whether it’s with friends or family, or celebrating a special event we know they will receive a welcoming smile and an enjoyable time.”
The new premises will be smaller, bringing a warmer and cosier atmosphere to the place, however, the main difference will be on the menu as it will concentrate on light lunches and afternoons and cake.
The team will also be specialising in loose-leaf teas as inspired by the Mad Hatter.
The teamroom will be open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 3pm, however, if there are events in the town centre, it will open on Sundays too.
At the previous location, Clare had been trying to sell her business, hoping the next person would not only take the property but the business as well, due to health problems
She then received the news that her health problems were not what was expected and she was able to continue, but on September 24, Clare rang the letting agency to find out that someone wanted the property and needed it by November 1.
She had to close the property sooner than expected, however, despite the quick closer, the business rapidly found a new home.
