Musician set on Kenya trip

A young musician is offering his services as a saxophonist in a bid to raise money to take part in Project Kenya.

David Hamilton-Richardson, 15, of Main Street, Balderton, is a pupil at the Lincoln Minster School where he is a saxophone music scholar.

He is studying at grade eight level with his music teacher at the school and with Gerard McChrystal, professor of classical saxophone at Trinity College, London.

David said he had been fortunate to be given the opportunity to go to Kenya in 2014 but needed to raise £3,000. The money will pay for flights, travel costs, insurance and equipment for the expedition.

The project encourages participants to raise the money themselves, and so he has already started.

He sells cupcakes at the Balderton dance studio run by his mother, Charlotte Hamilton, every Saturday and is also planning table-top sales.

David said he would also like to offer his services as a musician to raise money.

He said: “Perhaps there is an event that needs a saxophonist, maybe a pub where the landlord would let me do a session in return for a bucket collection or does anyone have a sax hidden away at the back of the cupboard and is looking for tuition?”

The project will involve pupils from UK state and private schools who will spend three weeks in Kenya working alongside local craftsmen.

During their stay their accommodation will be tents pitched at an old school building, which will be their base.

They will work on the building, refurbishing the classrooms, and will also be going into the school to help teach.

Anyone able to help David with his fundraising can email him at chdance@hotmail.co.uk
