Netflix takes 'no household mixing' rule to new level as it clamps down on ability to share passwords
Netflix has taken the 'no household mixing' rule to a whole new level.
So, if you're still hanging onto your ex, ex partner's password — you may have a problem.
The production platform is cracking down on people sharing passwords with other households.
Many users have begun to receive notifications asking them to verify they live with the Netflix account holder.
The message reads: "If you don't live with the owner of this account, you need your own account to keep watching."
Users are then prompted to use a code texted or emailed to the account owner to continue watching.
A statement from the company said: "This test is designed to help ensure that people using Netflix accounts are authorised to do so."
The Netflix terms and conditions state: "The Netflix service and any content viewed through the service are for your personal and non-commercial use only and may not be shared with individuals beyond your household."
In the first three months of 2020, the service saw a surge in 15.77m subscribers and between April and June, another 10.09m.
It was the biggest growth spurt in history as viewers turned to streaming services while stuck at home, according to Forbes.
