Kay Bellhouse named as new chairman of Historic Newark in Bloom

The new chairman of Historic Newark in Bloom says she wants to ensure gold at an annual competition.

Kay Bellhouse has been named the new chairman after Jenni Oliver stepped down from the position at Historic Newark in Bloom’s AGM meeting on February 5.

Kay said that during her one-year commitment as chairman, she wants to win gold for this year’s East Midlands in Bloom as last year’s silver award was only two points away from gold.

As well as putting Newark on a golden map, she is aiming to bring organisations together and act as an umbrella as she claims the town has got ‘some great people who do some great things’.

“I think with so many great things happening in the town, we are all just doing them in isolation and if we could share some resources, we can make the best of it for sustainability,” said Kay.

After years of involvement in the project Mrs Oliver started with George and Gillie Wilkinson and brought the community group into the 21st century with social media and media coverage, she said goodbye.

She thanked the volunteers in Newark who have made a big difference to the cause as well as Newark and Sherwood District Council and the Newark Town Hall team.
