New boats for Newark club

Seven new boats have been bought by Newark Rowing Club with the help of a grant from British Rowing's Explore Rowing programme.

It has bought two four seater boats, three doubles and two singles costing a total £25,000 of which the club received half the cost from British Rowing.

The club's captain Felicity Bound said that the boats were wider and more stable than the ones that they normally use for races and so are ideal for learners. The grant has been awarded as part of a programme aimed to introduce new people to the sport.

The Newark club's programme will be officially launched on June 26 at the North Muskham Riverside Festival and there will be a boat naming ceremony on July 10.
