Boundary Commission for England publishes final recommendations for new Parliamentary constituencies, with borders shifting between Newark and Sherwood
A constituency has been renamed and its borders shifted in the final recommendations for new constituency boundaries.
The Boundary Commission for England has today published its final recommendations for new constituency boundaries, following submission of its final recommendations report to the Speaker of the House of Commons yesterday, and that report now being laid before Parliament.
The changes reccomended see the Newark constituency, currently served by Conservative MP Robert Jenrick expanded to the North of Newark and East of Retford, to include Wiseton, Clayworth, North Wheatley, Bole, Hayton, Sturton Le Steeple, Fenton, Welham and North Leverton with Habblesthorpe.
Wellow has been removed from the Newark constituency, in the plans, and taken into the re-named Sherwood constituency, now Sherwood Forest.
Edingley, Halam and Kirklington, near Southwell, have been reccomended to become part of the Newark constituency, removing them from Sherwood, while Thurgarton, Gonalston, Hoveringham, Lowdham, Bulcote, Epperstone, Caythorpe and Gunthorpe now fall into the reccommended Sherwood Forest Boundary.
If approved, Newark would also gain Shelford and Newton, near Bingham, from Sherwood, and Barnstone, from Rushcliffe constituency.
Secretary to the Commission, Tim Bowden, said: “The recommendations we have published today mark the end of a thorough and consultative process to build the new map of Parliamentary constituencies.
“We have taken into account over 60,000 public comments, travelled the country, and heard many passionate views about how best to reflect local community ties in our recommendations. We are confident that our final recommendations are the best reflection of the statutory rules Parliament has set us. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has participated in the 2023 Boundary Review.”
The Government now has four months to bring forward an order to give effect to the final recommendations.
