Former Newark and Sherwood District Council vice chairman Rob Crowe, Conservative Councillor of Devon ward, was unanimously elected to be the new chairman, taking over from Councillor Keith Walker, at the full council meeting on Tuesday.

He was also elected onto the Newark Town Council, and I believe that Rob's experience will stand him in good stead."

The new vice chairman will be Mrs Penny Rainbow, Conservative Councillor of Southwell ward, and she was nominated for the post by Sutton-on-Trent Councillor Sylvia Michael, who praised Councillor rainbow for her volunteer work as a flood warden.

"Penny is that kind of person where nothing is ever too much trouble. She cares about people and the environment, and about the residents in her ward.

"In my opinion, she will make an excellent choice for vice chairman."

"The way I see my year is to engage with the community and to continue to make the council accessible so that we can support the community in the things that the town wants to do.

"There are so many things going on in Southwell where people are interested and engaged and involved in the life of the town. I see my role as facilitating that and making sure that Southwell remains a happy, safe place to live."
