New convenience chain MaxiSaver is due to open a Newark branch in time for Christmas.

The discounter, which opened its first UK store in Hinckley in August, will be in the former BrightHouse unit in St Mark’s Place.

Property Consultants FHP, acting on behalf of landlord the Topland Group of companies, have completed the letting of Unit 23.

The unit has ground floor and basement space of almost 5,000sq ft.

BrightHouse, a rent-to-own supplier of furniture and household appliances, closed its Newark shop in March of last year.

MaxiSaver is a convenience retailer offering a mix of food and drink, toiletries, household and seasonal items.

Since opening its first store in Hinckley it has secured several other locations.

The fit-out of the Newark store will begin soon, with a view to opening by Christmas.

Oliver Marshall, who carried out the letting at FHP, said: “This is a great letting for St Mark’s and Newark.

“Despite difficult retail conditions due to covid-19 it is great to get a long-term letting over the line.

“MaxiSaver identified Newark as a target location and the former Brighthouse store was a great fit for them.”

Nick Jaye at Topland Group of companies said: “This letting is testament to the strength of Newark as a town and in particular St Mark’s Place.

St Mark’s has always maintained high levels of occupancy and is home to some great national, regional and independent tenants.”
