The Fox Inn, Kelham, and Ashiana restaurant, North Muskham, submit applications to Newark and Sherwood District Council to build additional hotel rooms

Plans have been drawn up for additional hotel rooms at a village pub and rural Indian restaurant.

Both The Fox Inn, Kelham, and Ashiana restaurant, North Muskham, have submitted applications to increase their overnight accommodation offerings with new buildings for guest bedrooms.

At the Kelham pub, which sits on the corner of the A617 and Ollerton Road, a two storey building and ten parking spaces are proposed, on land currently part of a grassy pub garden area.

The pub already boasts accommodation for up to nine guests in its main building.

The new building would include ten guest suites, each with two bedrooms and a bathroom.

Five would be on the ground floor and five on the first floor, with entry from communal hallways and stairwells each shared by two suites.

Ten additional car parking spaces would also be created for the use of overnight guests.

To match the character of nearby housing in Kelham, the rectangular shaped 199sqm building is proposed to be constructed in red facing brick with a red pantile roof.

Planning documents stated: “The design has been kept low key and more in the style of terraced housing than a hotel block as the aim is to rent out blocks to families and friends attending functions at the Inn or Kelham Hall.”

Off the Great North Road roundabout and Bathley Lane, North Muskham, the Asiana Indian and Bangladeshi restaurant and hotel has sought permission for an additional block of rooms and additional car parking spaces.

The new 250sq metre ten-bedroom building is proposed to be built in red brick with a red pantile roof to closely resemble the existing ten-bedroom block at the site.

Each self-contained room would include a private en-suite bathroom, and could be set up with a double bed or two single beds.

An additional 27 car parking spaces are also proposed, which would serve both blocks of accommodation, as the new block is proposed to be built on land currently used for informal car parking for the existing hotel rooms.

A flood lighting pole would also need to be relocated as part of the scheme.

Planning documents stated: “The owner explained he wants to expand because he is fully booked, particularly at weekends during the peak season.”
