Village Chic on Castlegate, Newark celebrated Newark Emmaus Trust charity 30th anniversary with a new mural on the shop front
A business is once again brightening the town centre with a colourful mural dedicated to a charity’s 30th anniversary.
Village Chic on Castlegate, Newark, is well known in the town for its colourful painted displays to celebrate historic occasions and events.
This time, the business is raising awareness for Newark Emmaus Trust charity as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.
The mural displays 30 colourful people that resemble the charity’s logo. Each person represents each year that the charity has been running and offering support to people in Newark.
“We got inspiration from the charity’s logo and I think the colours are so eye-catching and so different which is great,” said Laura Hill, shop employee responsible for the paintings and getting creative with the murals.
She added: “People come in here and ask questions all the time about the colours and what the display is about.
“A lot of them might have heard the name but don’t necessarily know what the charity does and this allows us to explain and tell them more.
The local independent charity has grown its services and accommodations since it was first incorporated in January 1993.
It also now has a premier league footballer who is an ambassador for the charity.
It provides accommodation, support and training for homeless young people aged between 16 and 25, including pregnant teenagers, young parents and their babies.
Newark Emmaus Trust ceo Nikki Burley said: “Anything that raises our profile for us it’s fantastic. It is very eye-catching and I love what they do here all year around.
“We are very proud, we have 36 residents and 12 babies at the moment. The charity started of 30 years ago with one person and it just grew from there.
“It is really amazing how local businesses support us.”
