New speed limit signs to be installed at the A46 Farndon roundabout after safety concerns

Highways England is to instal signs in preparation for a new permanent speed limit which approaches one of Newark’s busiest roundabouts.

Temporary traffic signs to reduce the speed limit were introduced on the approach to the A46 Farndon roundabout because of safety concerns.

The move will now be made permanent with the speed limit reduced from 60mph to 40mph.

Highways England project manager Edward Byrne said: “Safety is the priority for Highways England and, having reviewed the collision data, we believe the lower speed limit has contributed to a reduction in the number of incidents at this location.”

Work to instal the signs will begin on Monday and take about two weeks to complete.

It will be carried out between 8pm and 6am using a mixture of weeknight and weekend closures.

A fully-signed diversion route will be in place while the road is closed, and it will be open as usual outside of the working hours.

Highways England is also in the final stages of essential safety and maintenance works on the Brownhills A46/A1 roundabout, which is expected to be completed early in November.
