Newark artist wins East Midlands Photographer of The Year

A Newark artist has won the East Midlands Photographer of The Year Award among several others.

Gary Orgles, of GoPhotography in Newark, was a top contender in the Master Photographer Awards (MPA) this year.

He was given several main awards from over 170 entries including portrait, commercial and creative photographer of the year, as well as the MPA photographer of the year.

Gary works out of a studio at Kelham Hall and Country Park, where he provides all sorts of photographic services, from families to equine and pets, and from weddings to full commercial shoots.

"I was blown away with the awards. I was hoping to get my under five’s award again as I love children, and the commercial was another of my targets," said Gary.

"Having won the Photographer of The Year award two years ago – having narrowly missed out last year – I was hoping for a chance of the main award, but there are so many excellent photographers out there – that it was a tall order."

The Master Photographers Association is the qualifying body for professional photographers.

Using an industry recognised three-tier mentoring and qualification system – in partnership with the photographic trade – the MPA supports and educates at all levels of the photographic industry, from students to seasoned professionals.

And through a network of localised regions and nationally staged events, the MPA hopes to bring photographers together from all disciplines to fulfil its mission – "Together we are stronger".

"Commercial photography is so important in today’s high speed visual world, and again for the third year running Gary has excelled. This is the reason why the public should only book qualified professional photographers to capture those special moments in our lives," said president and chairman of the MPA.

"Whether it be your wedding, a family portrait and even your pets. His under five's photography is inspiring and captures the child at that very special time in their life in a beautiful and happy way. Booking Gary is the way clients can be confident in knowing that they’ll get the best creative photographer and personal service available in the East Midlands."

Every year around the end of Autumn, as a thank you to the community of Newark and surrounding villages, Gary runs an under five's photographic competition. It is free to enter and last year had £1,500 in prizes.

Gary said: "When people come to me they know that I have the experience and passion to deliver a service of high standard. I say your photographs aren’t expensive, they’re priceless."
