Newark’s Salvation Army re-opens Brisbane Court, Balderton charity shop after refurbishment

A charity shop in Balderton has now opened up once again after being closed for refurbishment, writes Tyler Kay.

The Salvation Army in Brisbane Court has re-opened after having restorations during the last six weeks.

Helen Drummond, shop manager said: “We’ve had so many issues here, I’ve been volunteering here for four years, but it’s been one thing after another.

“The age of the property, and issues that we’ve had with maintenance.

“So we got a message from head office saying that we were going to have this refurb done at the beginning of the year.”

The shop re-opened on Tuesday, September 3, and Helen added: “Our shop is an independent charity shop, the beauty of our shop is that everything we raise goes back into the community.”

She added that as Newark’s Salvation Army often receives requests for gas and electric help, or for people fleeing domestic violence, the shop contributes to buying goods for people in need, such as white goods such as bedding, fridges and electronics, and beds.

Donations of goods are welcome to keep their good work going in the community.
