Volkswagen Newark permanently closes as part of company-wide re-organisation

A car dealership in Newark has permanently closed its doors.

Volkswagen Newark, on Northern Road, will close as part of a re-organisation of its branches.

A spokesman said: “Following a decision made at the end of last year, JCT600 is reorganising three of its dealerships.

“The nearby Jaguar and Land Rover dealerships in Doncaster will merge into a single site. Volkswagen Rotherham will combine with Volkswagen Sheffield; and, following attempts to sell the business proved to be unsuccessful, Volkswagen Newark will close.

“The reorganisation was planned before the covid-19 outbreak as the businesses were unviable in their existing format.”

The company is in consultation with 80 affected staff. It is hoped the majority will be redeployed to other dealerships in the group.
