Newark care home The Oaks and Little Oaks rated good by Care Quality Commission after improvements ordered
A care home has been rated good by the health watchdog, just two months after it was ordered to make improvements.
The Oaks and Little Oaks Care Home in Newark received a good rating in all five assessment categories after a recent inspection by the Care Quality Commission.
In August, the home was told it requires improvement with its leadership and responsiveness after making strides in safety, effectiveness and care.
While inspectors praised the home’s kind and caring staff, they said there were limited opportunities for people to engage in group or individual social and leisure activities.
In the latest report, however, inspectors observed a huge improvement and congratulated the home for hiring an activities coordinator to encourage residents to take part in activities.
The activities coordinator has been working with residents on an individual basis to ensure the programme is meaningful and enjoyable to everyone in the home.
The most impressive area of improvement has been in the quality of leadership. Inspectors praised the home manager for creating a person-centred and empowering culture.
Relatives agree, with one saying that managers: "listen to you and really try to put things right if you are unhappy about anything."
The Oaks and Little Oaks Care Home, which is run by Four Seasons Health Care, provides personal and nursing care to 37 people aged 65 and over.
Jacky Reed, regional manager for Four Seasons, said: “I am incredibly proud of the team at the Oaks and Little Oaks, this superb report is a testament to their hard work over the past two months.
"The positive feedback from residents and relatives is a joy to read and is a result of the outstanding leadership at this home.”
