NEWARK Castle has come third in a poll of the most poplar free tourist attractions in the East Midlands.
Sherwood Forest was first and Cleethorpes beach second in the poll of 2,000 people, carried out for the Premier Inn hotel company. The Museum of Lincolnshire Life came fourth.
The research found that almost half of parents said they relied on free attractions to keep their children entertained during school and bank holidays. More than a quarter said they planned to visit a free attraction this bank holiday weekend.
The Natural History Museum in London was voted the nation’s favourite free attraction, followed by the Science Museum. The Peak District National Park was seventh.
