Newark Christmas Market and Winter Feast sees 'best footfall in the town for years'
A crisp sunny December day met visitors to the Newark Christmas Market and Winter Feast today.
It was a stark contrast from the rain-affected Saturday.
There was a host of entertainment in Newark Market Place, which was thronged with people.
There was barely a carpark space to be found in Newark today as shoppers and visitors took advantage of the free-parking offering.
There were musicians and brass bands, carol-singing, street performers with a main stage in front of the Town Hall and a smaller performance area near Starbucks in the Market Place.
There was also a running programme of morris dancing, Punch and Judy and face-painting. Classic cars were also on show.
Market manager Ian Harrison said: "It has been a brilliant weekend.
"Sunday was particularly special given the exceptionally bad weather on Saturday.
"The live bands and entertainment have gone down a storm.
"It's the best footfall we've seen in Newark in years.
"It's an extremely good atmosphere and everyone is enjoying themselves.
On Saturday, in addition to the normal market there were many other stalls selling a wide range of Christmas and seasonal products.
As well as seasonal music and activity, Slackline School provided displays of cycle acrobatics.
Stalls offered a range of seasonal craftware, food and gifts and Christmas decorations with street food and drink vendors from across the East Midlands lining Stodman Street.
These included specialist quality cheeses, Belgium and German chocolates, award-winning Russian food, pies and pastries, gin and fruit liqueurs, artisan sauces and chilli products, beers and spirits including rhubarb gins, pizzas, soups, hot dogs, hog roasts, vegetarian pastries and much more.
It was the first two-day Christmas Market event held at Newark for at least 25 years.
