Newark famous hair salon INIZIO to open a cafe, wine bar and Airbnb at The Wharf
A salon that has been in Newark for 13 years is to bring two new high-end businesses to town.
Inizio, on Stodman Street, is hoping to move to the former Harbourmaster premises on The Wharf.
Next door to the new salon will be a coffee shop that turns into a wine bar on Friday and Saturday nights, while upstairs will be an Airbnb.
“We were really aware that we wanted to be inspirational and dynamic. We knew that we needed to add something new and exciting to our brand,” said Inizio owner Les Jones.
“Our brand has always been about being creative, inspirational, and we spend a lot of time in London and in places like that. We are inspired to create a space where clients have a destination.
“It will be something completely different and unique.”
Working on the project is one of UK’s leading architects, Charlie Hearn, who came up with a great inspiration for a funky salon.
“We wanted to offer something that we felt that was missing in Newark, offer different choices,” said Les.
“We hope it’s a space that people love, come visit us and support.”
The long established business in Newark has currently eight team members, but with the growing businesses it will need a bigger team for the different hospitality and retail services.
The whole business will be top-end, with luxury and Londonish.
The concept used is working with local wine merchants and the food served on Friday and Saturday nights through a well-known butcher, whose name will stay secret until the open day.
The hair salon will keep the Inizio name, and the coffee shop and wine bar, which will be in a separate unit will be called Not My Monkey.
“The name originates from a Polish saying ‘Not my circus, not my monkey’, which means that we don’t want to get wrapped in negativity, get on with our stuff and enjoy it with people like minded, it’s a positive saying,” said Les.
It is hoped the new business will be ready to open in December.
