Newark Flower Club exhibits at Lincolnshire Cathedral Flower Festival
Newark Flower Club is exhibiting Alice in Wonderland at the Lincoln Cathedral Flower Festival throughout August.
It was given an exhibition space of 4x4 metres, which allowed the team to work together and develop new skills on the project.
Ann Barnes, Newark Flower Club chairman, said: “We got little teams of ladies doing different parts of the exhibit. The event brought everyone together and it was just amazing.”
The theme of Alice In Wonderland includes the full experience from the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to the Queen of Hearts playing croquet with flamingos.
The theme choice was inspired by a tree that Ann had in her garden.
“We’ve done a lot of work to encourage new members and even though we don’t meet in August I’ve talked to so many people at the festival that were genuinely interested in taking part.” said Ann.
“Our current members work so well together, I just give them projects, tell them what I like and they do it, they’ve been absolutely brilliant.”
This year the club celebrates its 70th anniversary, and is one of the oldest flower clubs in the country.
Monthly demonstration’s are open to the public on the third Tuesday of the month at a cost of £10, with a reduced price for members.
The meetings are held at Highfields School on London Road Newark and begin at 7.15pm.
