Newark jewellery robbery to feature in ITV documentary

The story of how two police officers foiled armed robbers at a Newark jewellers will be broadcast on ITV later this year.

Sergeant Iain McIvor and Sergeant David Wilson were celebrating at a local pub in Newark, Nottinghamshire in January 2016 before they heard a disruption at the Andrew Michal jewellers.

They confronted the armed robbers and wrestled with them. Thanks to the intervention, Nottinghamshire Police gathered enough information to convict 12 offenders, resulting in a total of 80 years imprisonment.

The pair also collected bravery awards for the action and was named as Region 4 (Eastern) winners at the 22nd National Police Bravery Awards.

Sergeant Wilson, who has rejoined to Nottinghamshire Police after ten years with Lincolnshire Police said he was proud of his actions on the evening.

"I feel so privileged to have won the award and proud of what happened on the night."

"The best thing is coming to work every day and you just don't know what you are going to be faced with. It's the unpredictable nature of policing, that no day is the same.

“I love to help people. Anyone that works within the police, the emergency services and the armed forces, that put that uniform on and put ourselves in harm's way each day, I have real respect for. Day in day out, everyone is doing what they need to do to help people."
