Newark Magistrates' Court to close

Newark Magistrates' and County courts will be closed, the Government announced this afternoon.

Newark is one of 93 magistrates' and 49 county courts being shut as part of the Coalition's deficit-reducing programme.

A local campaign was launched to keep the magistrates' court open after it was named on the closure shortlist.

Grantham County Court and Retford Magistrates' Court will also close, but Worksop Magistrates' Court has been saved.
