Business visit measures up as Newark MP Robert Jenrick tours MKM Building Supplies




Newark MP Robert Jenrick toured a builders’ merchants where much of the stock is UK produced.

Among the topics discussed during the visit to MKM Building Supplies on Stephenson Way, Newark, were recruitment of lorry drivers and the post-Brexit supply chain.

Mr Jenrick heard about MKM’s efforts with electric vans, compressed natural gas lorries and its solar PV trials being run at at Newark.

The visit was arranged by Brett Amphlett, of the Builders’ Merchant Federation and MKM chief executive Kate Tinsley, from Radcliffe, and branch manager Bill Burroughs led the tour.

Mr Jenrick said: “It was great to visit MKM and meet the staff.

“They have a very impressive showroom and huge variety of products. I would encourage residents to check it out when considering home improvements as well as trade customers.

“It was helpful to discuss how the present inflationary period is impacting the building trade, but also heartening to hear that the majority of their materials are manufactured in the UK.”
