A Newark train station has been renamed in support of England ahead of the Euro 2020 final against Italy tonight (Sunday).

Newark Northgate has been renamed Newark Southgate for the day, with signs at the station being replaced temporarily.

LNER said it wanted to show support for the England football team ahead of a game that could see them clutching their first major trophy in 55 years.

A spokesman for LNER, said: “ We’re proud to follow the England team’s journey to the Euro 2020 final.

"As a show of support we’ve temporarily replaced station signs at Newark Northgate station to Newark Southgate.

"We would like to remind fans travelling with us to plan ahead as services will be busier than usual and to allow extra time as our goal is for everyone to have an enjoyable journey.”

Someone on Twitter said it should be a permanent change if England bring it home.
