Newark Ramblers joined by special guests for 50th anniversary celebrations
The Newark Town Mayor joined ramblers in celebration of a milestone anniversary.
Newark Ramblers has marked its 50th anniversary with special guests including Mayor Lisa Geary and Paddy Tipping, chairman of Nottinghamshire Area Ramblers.
The event, held at the Robin Hood Theatre, started with the groups AGM, and a presentation from speaker Jack Cornish which reflected on improvements which could be made to the footpath network around Newark as part of the Don’t lose Your Way project.
Newark Ramblers chair, Joyce Pedersen OBE, said: “Ramblers, as a physical outdoors activity, was able to run some walks during lockdowns but numbers and locations were limited. The Robin Hood Theatre provided a fun and quirky venue to bring us all together again, safely, after the challenges of covid-19. We are now looking forward to lots more walking and other social events”
Celebrations continued with a brown-bag lunch, supplied by Donna B, Sweet G’s and with cakes donated by Bakkavor and a short ramble along the River Trent and round Averham.
There was also a display of memorabilia to look around, prepared by member Marie Legg.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, the Newark Ramblers group have held a month of commemorative walks and launched the Newark Heritage Town Trail as part of Newark Heritage Open days.
The group is open to new members, and encourage new walkers to join in on up to three walks to give rambling a try.
