Residents gather at Newark Market Place to observe two-minute silence to mark Armistice Day
Over 100 residents gathered at Newark Market Place earlier today to observe a two-minute silence to mark Armistice Day.
Veterans gathered on the steps of Newark Town Hall behind the standards of the Royal British Legion and other military associations.
The Act of Homage was read by the chairman of the Newark branch of the Royal British Legion Debbie Langford.
The Last Post and Reveille were played by Newark Town Band.
The deputy Mayor of Newark, Laurence Goff, represented the town council.
Residents were thanked for paying their respects by Newark Poppy Appeal organiser Mr Paul Spreckley.
He said he was moved by the silence.
The Newark branch of the Royal British Legion, Newark branch of the Royal Navy Association, Newark and Balderton branch of the Royal Air Forces Association, Sherwood Forest Royal Artillery Association and Burma Veterans Association representatives were present.
