A weekend of celebrations has been planned at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre to mark their first anniversary.

Visitors have been invited to the centre in Bowbridge Road on Saturday and Sunday.

The new centre cost £9.4m and replaced the facilities at the Grove Leisure Centre, London Road.

They first opened their doors in April last year.

During the open weekend there will be a magic show, animal roadshow, a climbing wall, circus skills and much more.

Free taster sessions will be held for over 60s including chair based exercises, an over 60s swim and low impact aerobic exercise.

On Saturday there will be a magic show at 10am to 10.45am and again at 11.45am to 12.30pm.

White Post Farm will be hosting an animal roadshow between 9.30am to 3pm and during the afternoon there will be fitness and swimming sessions to try.

The celebrations will continue on Sunday with a circus skills session from 9.30am to 12noon.

There will also be a climbing wall for people to try and fitness sessions will continue in the afternoon.

Everyone wishing to take part in the activities will need an Active Card, which is free and can be obtained from the leisure centre.

The centre is run by Newark and Sherwood District Council's leisure company, Active4Today.
