Newark teenager receives extended Criminal Behaviour Order

A Newark teenager has been given an extended Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after becoming involved in further nuisance, alarm and distress in the community.

The boy, who is 15 and cannot be named for legal reasons, was already subject to an existing CBO but, on October 24, Nottingham Magistrates’ Court decided to extend it for a further 12 months after he pleaded guilty to breaching his CBO.

His extended CBO will last until November 8 next year.

The restrictions on his CBO include:

* Non association with a number of named individuals

* A ban on being in certain areas where he has been causing the most anti-social behaviour

* Being forbidden to enter, attempt to enter or cause damage to an unattended vehicle without the express permission of the owner

* Not to cause harassment, alarm or distress to anyone in the Newark or Sherwood area.

PC Sarah Murdoch, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "This young person has caused numerous problems in and around the Newark area and the community should be commended for supporting the police in our application to try and protect the public from this individual.

"Hopefully this extension should offer a level of protection for the community and enforce the message that this behaviour is unacceptable.”

Newark and Sherwood District Council Anti-Social Behaviour Officer, Terry Bailey, said: “This shows the power of joint working.

"We made an application with the Police to place a longer order on this offender.

"We will do all in our power to protect the community from this nuisance.

"This should serve as a warning to all those young people who feel that they can cause alarm, harassment or distress in Newark and Sherwood."

The boy has also been charged with offences of burglary and theft, in relation to an incident in East Stoke, Newark, on July 12, theft of a motor vehicle from an address in Lincoln on July 10, driving otherwise in accordance with a licence on July 12 and driving without insurance on July 12.

He is next due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on November 27 in relation to these matters.

-Please note that legal proceedings are active against this teenager.

Therefore nothing should be published by anyone which could likely lead to any juvenile (aged under 18) who is involved in these proceedings being identified, whether as a defendant or witness.

This ban would include publishing names, addresses, names of any educational establishments they attend, places where they work or any pictures of them.

Anyone publishing such material would be committing a criminal offence.
