Newark woman to style clothes for Gok Wan roadshow One Size Fits All
A busy mum who started her own fashion business last year will be styling models for a star on Saturday.
Hannah Smith of Main Street, Balderton, launched her online store, New Mode Boutique, when the youngest of her three sons started school.
Just over a year later she is preparing to style ten models with her clothes for television makeover maestro Gok Wan.
The fashion star’s latest roadshow, Gok Wan One Size Fits All, takes place at the Crowne Plaza hotel, Nottingham, on Saturday. The sell-out event is described as a masterclass in fashion, style and insider secrets.
Hannah was contacted by Gok’s team after they found her on social media.
“They just happened to come across me and said they thought I would be a perfect fit,” she said. “I thought it was a hoax at first. I couldn’t believe it.”
Hannah will be styling ten models for a catwalk show with ten different looks in sizes 8 to 18.
“The choice is completely in my hands so I am going to be showing a variety items from my autumn/winter collection, with everything from casual wear to a nice evening look,” she said.
Hannah will meet Gok for the first time tomorrow, but said she still hadn’t decided what to wear herself.
“I’ve been so busy thinking about what the models will wear that I haven’t even thought about my own outfit yet,” she said.
Hannah said she had always loved clothes and fashion and, after taking a break from work 11 years ago to have her three sons, she felt the time was right to start her own business.
“After having children women often feel like they have to re-invent themselves,” Hannah said. “They want to be fashionable and on-trend but without dressing too young. I wanted to give them something a bit different. I choose what I like and what catches my eye.”
Hannah, who was born and brought up in Newark, and went to the former Sconce Hills and Lilley and Stone schools, said. “Ever since school my friends all said I was destined to do this, but it has been a bit of a whirlwind since setting up a year ago.”
She said her family was proud of her success.
“My husband Darren is my biggest supporter,” she said. “If people comment that they like my outfit he always tells them it’s from my own business.”
Hannah already sells locally and nationally, but is now hoping her star credentials will help her business grow even further.
